Reflections on downtown Traverse City

No matter what time of day or night, no matter what the season, walking in downtown Traverse City is always enjoyable. For a few weeks each spring and autumn, the sun’s angle is just right to cast amazing reflections from the old bank building at the corner of Front and Unions streets onto the building across the street. The result is an eye-catching pattern of unusually shaped patches of light.

In summer, the East-West oriented Front Street casts a deep shadow over the south side sidewalk. Cross to the north side, and you can enjoy the hot summer sun.

In winter, a fresh coating of snow lends the scene a bright aspect even if the skies are cloudy.

A rainstorm can toss a glossy sheen across the road surface, allowing it to reflect nearby buildings, passing cars and passersby.

No matter when you go downtown, there’s always something new to see.
